A Bit of Down Time in Steamboat Springs

I had really considered skipping this last bit of the trip and heading home since we weren’t really visiting anyone. I’m glad I didn’t, though! We have this amazing 2 bedroom/ 3 bathroom Presidential with our own private (very private!) hot tub. Honestly, I was getting weary of all the moving, packing and unpacking, and just needed a break - a vacation from the “vacation”. So, we decided to just say for a week and get home a little later. There is so much to do once we get home and I need time to get this blog updated. We’ve just been hanging out, taking Tiko this great dog park, renting movies every night and then jumping in the hot tub. I brought the portable speakers and so we have really enjoyed just relaxing, listening to music and not having to pack and unpack. I think Tiko has enjoyed staying in one place, too, but does love the dog park. We’ve only eaten out twice, both really good and of course, did an owner update with Wyndham. It wasn’t too bad and we got a $125 gift card. On top of that, when we arrived they loaded us down with all these gifts. Not sure why, not ever had it happen before, but it was a nice surprise!

Three packages of chaolate goodies from the local candy shop, a hat, bag, fanny pack, sticker, cookies, candy bar, lip balm and a pound of coffee I forgot put in called Moose Drool Mud! How nice!

Sweet view, huh?!?!

First thing we did was head to Fish Creek Falls the next day. It was just prefect for us, an easy 1/4 mile walk to the viewing area and pretty level. Since the snow is starting to melt, there was a pretty good amount of water flowing!

This was an unusual dog park in that it was not fenced, just a big open area where you were expected to have voice and sight control of your dog. That’s great for Tiko since he doesn’t ever want to get too far from us, his pack. We went 3-4 times and he loved it every time! As you can tell by the video below!

The Yampa River runs through Steamboat Springs and there is this really great people trail all along it. Right by the resort is a place to park and jump on the trail. The local Rotary Club built a very nice boardwalk in a loop with parts shooting off. We enjoyed walking that and checking out all the informative signs.

As I said, we only ate out a couple times, but the best was at The Egg, for brunch! I had this amazing “French Benedict” - pecan-smoked bacon and Swiss on a croissant, with grilled asparagus, a poached egg and hollandaise sauce - OMG, it was SO good, I’m still dreaming of it!

Scott had corned beef hash and loved it, too!

This cool mural was outside the Old Town Pub where we had a really great dinner. It was so much, we just saved one meal for later and were still stuffed!

About our third day here, it snowed and covered everything, just a little, but made it all so pretty. Right next to the resort is the “Strings Festival” auditorium. It’ not open, but has really beautiful grounds and a sidewalk leading to a local carry out called the Drunken Onion, which we had to try out just because of the name. Scott thinks onions should be their own food group!
