Scott and I have been married for 31+ years and like everyone have had our highs and lows, but overwhelming they have been mostly highs - until recently.
The long and short of it is, Scott has frontotemporal dementia, my mom has Alzheimer’s and my dad, who was in very declining health, passed away on Feb. 22, 2021. For these reasons I decided to take a 4 1/2 month I leave from work (thank you PAX!) to get things in order for my family and then to take Scott on a 6-week road trip to visit friends and family.
We couldn’t go without Tiko as he is part of the pack and helps Scott as a service dog to keep him safe and help get him get back home or to the car, if need be. Scott would probably consider him more of an emotional support companion, but there is no way we could do this without Tiko.
Last, we are both very passionate about the environment and have driven an EV for the past 5 years. However, it (BMW i3) was way too small to take on an extended road trip and didn’t have the luggage space. We just couldn’t imagine buying a car that would use fuel again after not “filling up” for 5 years! So, after selling some stock, refinancing the house and taking out a loan, we bought a Tesla Y. Scott has ALWAYS wanted a Tesla and I’m so happy we were able to swing it. We took it and Tiko to Florida a week after we purchased it in December 2020, for a test run, and it worked great. We are confident it is the right car for this trip.
So, as you can imagine, the level of planning for this was extensive - knowing the range/mileage, finding chargers and dog parks, both of us getting vaccinated before we left (THANK YOU BCHD) and coordinating schedules with all the people we are wanting to visit - and was partially done while at my Dad’s bedside before he passed. It might surprise you that he was such a lover of EVs and it breaks my heart that he didn’t get to ride in our Tesla before he passed. When I picked up his ashes from the funeral home and got in the car, I completely lost it, thinking that was not how I wanted my dad to go for a ride, but hoping wherever he was, he enjoyed it.
I hope you enjoy the website and thank you so much to our son, Zee, for helping me get it set up. The really short of it is 10 timeshare resorts, 4 Airbnb’s, 3 Hampton Inns, two friends and family and one kick-ass fishing resort!
P. S. The photo below was taken right after they took my sweet papa away. I like to think of it as his way of saying goodbye, that he was finally at peace and no longer in pain.
