Durango and Pagosa Springs
I have wanted to go to Pagosa Springs for a long time, but even more so since Jess, Jimmy and Ethan stayed there years ago and said it was one of their favorite Wyndham resorts. It was very different, but I can understand why they liked it. I had reservations for three nights, Wednesday through Saturday, but we ended up staying only Wed. night and Fri. night. This was because it was an hour from Durango where we were catching the train Friday morning. We had to be there no later that 8:30 to get parked, plugged in and walk over to the station. So, we stayed at a super nice Double Tree just a couple blocks from the station and it had Tesla chargers right out front. We actually stopped there Wednesday so we could charge up while we ate at the hotel restaurant (one of just a handful open that late).
Pagosa Springs resort had the most picturesque view from the balcony. I had booked a 3 bedroom, which we didn’t need, but I had thoughts that maybe our friends Ben and Erin and their two daughters might be able to join us.
I feel bad that we didn’t really have time to check out Pagosa Springs proper, but hope to go back some day. Think our grandson Ethan should be with us, though, because the lake seemed to be quite the place to fish! The guy fishing right in front of our unit probably caught half a dozen fish (12-18” long) and was carrying a whole string back to his unit. The day we left there were a bunch of people were fishing around the lake. The strangest thing happened here, though. The stairs were grates and Tiko wouldn’t go up them. When we walk him at home he will walk around any grates in the sidewalk, so it wasn’t too surprising. We had to lay towels down on the stairs for him to step on, then move them around in front of him. It was quite the ordeal so we didn’t take him out much!
The drive from Pagosa to Denver was really interesting. We traveled for miles along the edge of a mountain range, but once we started going up, we were able to stop and take a picture of the valley. Was a bit scary as there were no guardrails. Even Tiko stayed away from the edge!
