A Day of Unexpected Surprises #1
March 12 -
We, of course, were headed to Waco to see Chip and Joanna Gaines Magnolia Marketplace, but had one surprise after another before we even got there that made the day so much better!
Since we were staying in a Hampton Inn and their breakfasts are now sad paper bag affairs, I looked on Yelp the night before for the best brunch places in Waco. However, I was so tired I fell asleep with the map up of the recommendations. When I woke, I had apparently touched a spot on the map because “Butter My Biscuit” was up. I thought, “we’ll that is where we must go!”
Butter My Biscuit is in a “not great” part of Waco at the end of a strip mall. When we got there I couldn’t even tell which door to enter because the sign was so small compared to the large sign “King’s Landing Games”. Turns out, they share space with the game store in the front, like Cracker Barrel. The counter to order take out and buy the games is in the middle and about 10 tables for dining in are on the side. We decided to just order take out and eat in the car since the wait was 30 minutes. I told Daniel, the brother of the cook and owner, how we came to be there and he showed us real Texas hospitality! Let us sample the kolaches with this amazing spicy green cream sauce to dip them in - delicious! Scott ordered “What Brent Had” and I don’t remember what I ordered, but it was was wonderful and too much.
While waiting for the food we shopped in the store, bought a couple games (because we have SO much room ;-) and a jar of nectarine honey from a local farmer.
It was all such a fun, surprising, tasty and delightful experience!
