More B’s! B,B&B,O - Barb, Bend and Burns, Oregon

Kind of funny we keep having these B’s during our trip, but I do love bees, so kind of appropriate! We left Klamath Falls and were heading to the diciest part of our trip, as far as charging goes. Ultimately, we needed to get to Park City, UT, but to do that meant going through eastern Oregon where there was only one Tesla charger and it was only a Level 2, meaning a 3-4 hour charge. So, I decided we would just spend the night and got an Airbnb, but more on this later. About a week before we left I got this very sweet sympathy card from our dear friend Greg Jordan’s mother, Barb. We had visited and stayed with her in 2004 when we were on the motorcycles and she also mentioned that Greg and Rosie had given her a piece of Dad’s pottery which she really cherished. Since we were in Klamath Falls, about 2 1/2 hours south I thought it would be wonderful to reconnect with her. So, we changed our route a bit, which actually turned out better, and went to Bend to see Barb! We were able to supercharge there, too. I didn’t realize it, but it was Easter Sunday, April 4th. Barb set out such a lovely spread of food and we ate quite well! I was stuffed! The best part, though, was seeing Dad’s pottery and visiting with Barb. We have a lot in common and I really enjoyed the conversation. It was a short visit, but just so lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we had to hit the road to Burns!

The trip from Bend to Burns and then Burns to Ontario, Oregon, the next day was just so different than expected. It was just WIDE open spaces and lovely. I really enjoyed the drive and we made the trip to Burns in about 2 1/2 hours.

So, we got to Burns, dropped our stuff at the Airbnb and headed to the charger, behind the Chamber of Commerce. Unfortunately, we were about 5 minutes too late and another Tesla owner had just plugged in and said she would be there until 11 pm. Since it wasn’t within walking distance of our Airbnb, we were going to have to bring it back at 11 pm, sit and charge for an hour or so (we only needed about 60 miles) and then hit the sack. Fortunately, we went back to the Airbnb and discovered that there was a 110 plug right inside the sliding doors on the side - and the driveway was on the left side so backing in made our cord plenty long enough to the charge port on the driver’s side of the car. We only get 5 miles of charge an hour, but we were there almost 13 hours, which was just enough charge! I’m actually glad that the other Tesla was there and we were able to charge at the house. It worked out perfectly. We went back to the house, I fixed some dinner, we took showers and then headed to bed. Scott actually slept downstairs on the couch because the bathroom was downstairs and I didn’t want him falling in the middle of the night trying to get to the bathroom from the upstairs bedroom. It was a great little Airbnb, though, and perfect for what we needed!

Made it to the last Supercharger in Oregon (in Ontario) and found this great little coffee shop across the parking lot. Had coffee, chai and shared a cookie while waiting. What a delight!
