Trip to Klamath Falls
On April Fool’s Day we headed for the resort in Klamath Falls. Although it was going to take 5-6 hours, we were in no real hurry and made a couple of fun stops on the way. There first was to grab lunch as breakfast was pretty light that morning. Greg had a place all picked out called Steady Eddie’s that served breakfast all day. Somehow, while talking, we missed the exit. I mean really missed it. After realizing it, we decided to stop at a place in Williams, CA, called Granzella’s, which is a bit like Cracker Barrel on steroids! Greg and Wanda had seen their signs (a bit like Wall Drug in SD), but had never been. They have a restaurant, sports bar, a deli, a bakery and lots of shopping, mostly food stuffs. I found this line of seasoning shit amusing:
Greg, who is a great tour guide/travel agent, next suggested we stop at the Sundial Bridge in Redding, CA. Since the weather had clearly become our friend, we decided to stop and check it out. The whole park was amazing and once again, wish we had more time to explore all the paths, trails and gardens. The bridge is an actual sundial, but Greg and I couldn’t agree on whether it was on daylight savings time or not! Either way, Tiko loved the walk and we all enjoyed stretching our legs - and using their clean bathrooms!
The trip up was so interesting because the geography and scenery changed drastically. We passed groves and orchards to start, but then it became much more high desert terrain with mountains. It really reminded me of Montana and was just spectacular driving. Eventually, we saw Mt. Shasta and stopped at a great viewing area, only to realize later that we would be in Mt. Shasta’s shadow while charging!
This was the first time, I believe, that we booked a WorldMark resort through Wyndham. It was the only one near Crater Laker and was a really great resort. Would love to come back and spend more time. It’s called the Running Y Ranch Resort and it had everything - including an outdoor ice skating rink, tennis and pickle ball courts and tons of walking trails. The view from our large two bedroom unit was beautiful. The best thing, though, was having our own gas grill again, on the patio, to use making a shit-ton of shish-ka-bobs! We ate well that night!
