MARFA!

Ok, so you probably have not heard of Marfa and I don’t remember where I heard of it, but it was a long time ago. This is a “bucket list” place for me and I am so glad we got to finally visit it, although I’ll have to come back as the three most important places to visit were closed due to the pandemic. Still, got to see a couple of the places I was wanting and we had a great time staying in the first Airbnb.

Marfa reminds me a bit of Columbus, although much smaller because of the art, the history behind how it all got started, the architecture and there was movie shot there a log time ago - “Giant” with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean. Also, much more recently, an Amazon original series was set there, “I Love Dick”, where Marfa plays a role, similar to the movie “Columbus”, set in Columbus, IN.

The scenery coming into Marfa is stunning and wide open, literally we could see for 10 miles. We passed a viewing station to see the Marfa Mystery Lights, but the parking lot was packed so we didn’t join them.

If you like quirky, art-y, unusual/unique places and what to go somewhere that others haven’t, Marfa is the place!

Greetings from Marfa!

On the way into town, this art installation greets you. It was too dark for me to see if there was anything explaining it, but it was fun and cool to see and walk around.

Below is a slideshow of the place I was hoping to stay, but there was nothing available. It was pretty empty, though, so they just must not have been taking many guests to allow for distancing. Anyway, the only chargers in town were in front of this place, called El Cosmico. It has retro RVs, tepees, yurts, canvas camp tents on platforms and a few other types of accommodations - and lots of hammocks. They invited us to walk around while charging and to use the hammocks - so we did! Was such a beautiful morning, we just enjoyed hanging out for a while and got a little juice in the car!

Another art installation up by Marfa Prada, on the ranch where the film “Giant” was shot. There was even music playing! the sky was it’s own character, it was so beautiful!
